Strongman is something I watched every time I could growing up in France. It was not the age of the internet so it was not something you just stumbled into, you had to work to find it.
A memory that stuck with me was seeing Bill Kazmaier during the WSM loading a pick-up truck with various heavy stuff, running, laughing and just throwing the things around while the other competitor struggled.
He was a god of strength.
Late in my 30s, when I opened my gym, I decided to use the implements for functional training. I always thought they translated better. To wrestle Strongman training sounded far more effective than Oly lifting (for example).
I developed a real taste for the sport and actually got good at it fairly fast. Within 18 months I entered my first Strongman competition and won.
